Xiao Wen Xu is a Chinese-born Canadian artist based in Toronto. She specialises in watercolour and mixed-media painting and holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Waterloo (2018).

 

Xu's artistic practice uses traditional Chinese painting techniques, such as simplifying forms and leaving negative space. Grounded in a deep observation of the natural world, she depicts the shape of flora, fauna, and landscapes realistically while using fluid and bold imaginary colours. Her paintings create a surreal and fantastical world that bridge Canadian and Chinese cultures.
