Xiao Wen Xu is a Chinese-born Canadian artist based in Toronto. She specialises in watercolour and mixed-media painting and holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Waterloo (2018). Xu's unique perspective is painting Canadian flora using Chinese painting techniques, such as simplifying forms and leaving negative space. Her artistic practice is influenced and inspired by her love of nature and colour. She depicts the shape of flowers, leaves, and landscapes realistically while using fluid and bold imaginary colours. Her paintings create a surreal and fantastical world that bridge Canadian and Chinese cultures.
Xu has presented her work in solo exhibitions in Toronto and in group exhibitions in Hamilton, Los Angeles, and New York City. Sign up for her newsletter to be notified about future shows.
